I have read with huge interest the 58 comments posted before leaving my response. I particularly agree with comments made by Fiona Butterfield, Clare Prince, Gillian Boal and Krystyna Koscia. I am grateful to Stefania for bringing the proposal to our attention and hope that all our heartfelt comments are brought to the attention of our Chair, the Trustees and all Icon committees. It is very clear that Book & Paper members do NOT want to lose our dedicated journal. The proposal of 2 multi-disciplinary journals would inevitably lead to less book & paper articles over time. As many people have commented the dedicated journal is VERY important to us all and we do not want to lose it. Publications and events are a very important and tangible part of my Icon membership. I do not want to see either eroded. Icon must focus on what Book & Paper members really want – and that is 1 journal that remains dedicated to Book & Paper each year. Membership will only increase, and this appears to be badly needed, IF this Journal remains. At convergence the Book & Paper group was the largest. We brought to Icon the IPC library which is now the Icon library. I do not wish to see further erosion of our group’s stature. Icon has had a huge and good influence in many ways but it must remember to listen to what its members want!Joanna Payne ACR

Hi. I just noticed that your site looks like it has a few code erorrs at the very top of your website's page. I'm not sure if everybody is getting this same problem when browsing your blog? I am employing a totally different browser than most people, referred to as Opera, so that is what might be causing it? I just wanted to make sure you know. Thanks for posting some great postings and I'll try to return back with a completely different browser to check things out! London,UK

I went to tons of links before this, what was I thinking?

I agree with the above comments. I have alyaws valued the practical aspects of the information in the Book and Paper Journal and have all the early issues in my library still referring to them. I was very disappointed when ICON was formed but still get enough from the journal in it's current form to subscribe. If it is merged I will withdraw my membership completely as I have to decide on priorities for journal subscriptions and as a multi-disciplinary journal it is unlikely to be on the list. Our conservation lab has been a continuous member pretty much since 1976!

Dear Misses Signorello,if merging the two viresons of the ICON journal means that there will be one journal where ALL articles of both journals are provided, then I can live with that. This is a win-win situation for all groups. If merging means that the journal becomes a general journal with quality loss and less information specific for the Book and Paper group I think this is not a good idea.As a professional body we have an exemplary role and specifically as conservator-restorers quality has to be a trademark of our profession. If cost-cutting is the reason for this merger I can only say that it is a wrongreason to do it.Lots of greetings

I fully support all the above cotmnems. As a recent graduate, with no immediate opportunity for accreditation, there would be nothing keeping me from leaving ICON if the separate Book and Paper journal was to be discontinued. I feel that it is a valuable platform for students, not only to read about new approaches in conservation techniques, but also it gives students the opportunity to submit articles for publication – which is hugely important in this profession. With the merger, I feel that this could not continue, as preference would possibly be given to more experienced professionals. I hope that a solution can be found that benefits everyone, and takes into consideration the cotmnems raised from this discussion.
